This page explains how the Your Sommelier website, browser application and iPhone app handle information. For privacy questions or deletion requests, contact info@yoursommelier.org.

This website

This website is hosted on Vercel. It does not include a newsletter database. The Impact affiliate publisher tag described below runs on production website pages. When enabled, Google Analytics 4 measures website visits only after you choose “Allow analytics.” Google may receive browser and device information, your IP address and page visits, and uses analytics cookies. We disable Google signals and advertising personalization. We send page paths without query strings or fragments and do not send account IDs, email, wine notes, photos or chats. You can decline or change your choice using “Analytics preferences”; declining stops future collection and removes accessible GA cookies. See Google’s privacy policy. This choice is separate from the signed-in usage counts described below. The pairing demo runs in your browser and does not send your dinner selections to our servers. Vercel may process request information, such as IP address, browser information, and requested pages, to serve and protect the website. See Vercel’s privacy policy.

Sign-in and your account

The app uses Supabase for authentication and account storage, with Apple or Google sign-in where enabled. Account information may include a user identifier and the name or email supplied by the sign-in provider. Session credentials are stored in the iPhone Keychain on iPhone. The browser application stores its account session in browser storage so you can remain signed in. See Supabase’s privacy policy, Apple’s privacy policy, and Google’s privacy policy.

Browser application

The browser application at /web uses the same Supabase account as the iPhone app. Signed-in browser wine records, ratings, optional notes and conversations are saved in account-scoped browser storage and synced to your private cloud wine records when connected. With automatic collection sync enabled on iPhone, saved iPhone wines become available when connected. You can also use Sync now in iPhone Settings. Signing out hides your local account data; shared devices should use separate browser profiles. Public wine headlines and images may be fetched from their publishers and source hosts. Affiliate tracking is described below.

Wine records and photos

Wine identities, ratings, reactions, tasting notes, saved categories, and conversations are stored locally on your device. Label photos also stay locally on your device. When automatic collection sync is enabled, wine records, notes, ratings, and conversations are uploaded to your private Supabase account when connected. You can turn automatic sync off or use Sync now in Settings. Label photos are excluded from sync. Cloud records are merged with local records, keeping the newer version of each wine.

AI identification, research, and conversations

Apple Vision reads text from a label photo on your iPhone. In the browser application, Tesseract.js reads the photo locally in a browser worker. The camera is used only when you choose to scan; label photos are stored locally in the browser and excluded from cloud sync. Extracted text may then be sent through our Cloudflare backend to OpenAI to identify the wine. Wine research and chat requests include the relevant bottle details, saved research context, your question, and recent conversation history. The app may send saved wine identities, styles, ratings, and reactions to obtain recommendations; recommendation requests do not include personal tasting notes or chats.

OpenAI may search the web to research wines or answer questions. Our backend sends API requests with response storage disabled. This setting does not mean all service or security logs are eliminated; provider handling is governed by their applicable policies. Verified bottle research may be cached by our backend for up to 30 days; price quotes may be cached for 24 hours. See OpenAI’s privacy policy and Cloudflare’s privacy policy. Avoid including sensitive personal information in wine questions or notes.

AI data sharing requires your permission before AI requests are sent. You can decline and continue using news and saved wines, or turn AI sharing off in Settings on iPhone or My account on the web. Turning it off stops new AI requests; it does not remove information already processed.

Camera, photos, microphone, and dictation

The app requests camera or photo access for label scanning. Microphone and speech recognition access are used only when you choose dictation. Apple speech recognition can run on-device when supported; otherwise Apple’s service may process audio. You can change permissions in iPhone Settings.

Retail and affiliate links

When affiliate links are available, opening one takes you to an independent retailer or through an affiliate network. Those services may receive referral identifiers and use cookies or other tracking to attribute a purchase. Their privacy policies and checkout terms apply. The website includes retailer purchase links. We use Impact’s publisher tag to transform eligible retailer links into affiliate tracking links and record page impressions. Impact may receive the page URL, referral and campaign identifiers, browser/device information, IP address and cookie or session identifiers. This tag is separate from optional Google Analytics. We do not call Impact’s identify function or supply your account ID, email, wine notes, photos or chats. See Impact’s privacy policy. See our affiliate disclosure.

Usage counts

When signed in, the app sends usage events to our own Cloudflare backend: active use, wine-card impressions, bottle opens and retailer clicks, with platform, a temporary session identifier and a hashed bottle identifier. Photos, personal notes, chats and email are not included. The backend uses your verified account only to authenticate requests and create a daily pseudonym; the analytics store does not receive your account ID. Daily deduplication pseudonyms are kept for up to two days, and aggregate daily counts for up to 90 days. The private owner dashboard shows aggregate counts. This is not cross-app advertising tracking. Usage sharing is on by default and can be turned off in Settings → Usage privacy on iPhone or My account → Usage privacy on the web. Turning it off stops new events; existing aggregate counts cannot be linked back to your account for removal.

How information is used

Information is used to provide sign-in, identify bottles, answer questions, personalize wine suggestions, save and restore your collection, and respond to support requests. We do not sell your personal wine notes or conversations. Service providers process information needed for the functions described above.

Retention and your choices

Local records remain on your device until removed. Removing the app removes its local records, but does not itself delete your account or cloud backup. Cloud records remain until deleted or the service is discontinued, subject to operational backups and applicable retention requirements. To request access, correction, or deletion of account or cloud data, email info@yoursommelier.org. We may verify account ownership before acting. Your rights can vary by location.

Age and international processing

Your Sommelier is intended for adults of legal drinking age, not children. Do not use it to encourage underage or excessive drinking. Providers may process information in countries other than your own.

Updates
